VARIETIES :  Majority of Grenache, Syrah

YIELD : 35 hl/ha

NUMBER OF BOTTLES : 19 000 b.

HISTORY AND VINEYARD :

“Bouvencourt” : A tribute to the name and character of the historic Brotte Vacqueyras “cuvée” coming from a so called area. (70s)

Vacqueyras is a small village of southern Rhône situated between the famous crus of Gigondas and Beaumes de Venise. It was honoured with its own ‘cru’ status in 1990, hence joining the nine crus of the South Rhône Valley. The Vacqueyras appellation spreads over red clay and sandy soils covered with small pebbles allowing for a low yield and high concentration of colours and aromas. The climate is dry and warm and sees its effects amplified by the powerful Mistral wind.

VINIFICATION AND MATURATION :

The harvest is spread over several weeks in order to obtain perfect maturity for all berries. This naturally depends on the grape variety but also the different positions and altitudes of the vineyards in the appellation. Depending on the year, the winemaker might choose to de-stem the grapes or not before crushing. The temperature is kept high during the fermentation (28°C) and the maceration lasts 4 weeks, in order to obtain a good extraction of tannins and colour. The malolactic fermentation takes place in concrete vats and precedes a maturation of 12 months in 100 year old oak vats.

TASTING NOTES:

“Generous and Warming”

Colour – Vivid and limpid ruby.

Nose  Delicate Provençal bouquet showing hints of Herbs de Provence and garrigue alongside aromas of red and black fruits, black olives and cinnamon.

Palate Following through from the nose, the palate is warmly generous and fleshy, with a smooth and elegant finish.

FOOD AND WINE MATCHING :

Serve at 17 °C.

Enjoy with a traditional hare civet, beef cheeks, braised lamb shoulder or simply a chocolate mousse with raspberry coulis.

VINTAGE : 2017 : A good year with low yields. With beautiful rich sugar and deep colours, the red wines are powerful, round and balanced. Whites and rosés are fat, full-bodied and have kept good freshness. 2016 : An exceptional year. The reds are aromatic, powerful, round, fine and balanced, while the whites display freshness, unctuosity, full body and great length.
