Brotte Châteauneuf-du-Pape Domaine Barville
Power, Maturity and Silkiness
Domaine Barville is the historic family property of Laurent Brotte, named after ancestors named Barville. This 23ha vineyard to the west of the village of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, overlooks the Rhone, with Avignon on the horizon. It is made up of seven parcels spread over two of the oldest and best terroirs of the AOC (red clay and rolled stone of the “Pradel” and the broken limestone of the “Beaurenard”)
At an altitude of 100 meters, the vines of an average of 35 years, overlook the Rhone and benefit from the Mistral. This strong, northerly wind dries the vineyard after rains, thereby favouring maturity. The very hot climate and excellent exposition also add to the ripeness and concentration of the berries.
Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre and Roussanne flourish on our terroirs.
Whether it be viticulture, wine making, maturation or bottling, we respect the modalities of the Terra Vitis label, thus protecting man and the environment.

Grenache, which dominates our cuvee, is grown on soils of broken limestone bedrock that reflect the sun and accentuates the typical warmth of the AOC, thereby favouring ripening. Yields are kept to 31 hl/ha, lower than the AOC limit of 35 hl/ha, giving very concentrated fruit.
The soils are ploughed throughout the year using sustainable agriculture principles. Green period tasks such as de-budding, leaf thinning and green pruning, limit yields thus improving quality. Grapes are hand-harvested and transported rapidly in small crates to avoid crushing berries and chance of oxidation. We then fully de-stem and crush the grapes. Fermentation is maintained at 28˚C, followed by a maceration of three weeks. The most tannic wines of Syrah, Mourvedre and Grenache are matured in French oak barrels (1/3 new, 1/3 one wine, 1/3 two wines) while the most supple Grenache is aged in concrete tanks and 100 year old, large oak vats to conserve the fruit. Bottling is done in March after more than a year of ageing, after a light filtration.
Power, maturity and silkiness characterize our wine.

Made from a parcel of 65 ares, especially suited to Roussanne. Hand-harvested at full ripeness in the early morning, then aged for eight months on the lies. This cuvee shows great complexity and richness.
The Emblem of Domaine Barville
Charles Brotte chose a coat-of-arms based on a typical shield which is adorned with a knight and three roses. This coat-of-arms appears partially on Domaine Barville wines and fully on wines from the Signature Brotte range with neck collar. The three roses which also appear on the city of Grenoble’s coat-of-arms and symbolize three powers, carried another sense for Charles Brotte: the three powers of Terroir: that of the earth, the climate and of man.
