The
estate, under the Condrieu name, has belonged to the Pichon
family for the past 3 generations. It is partly managed today by
the son, Christophe Pichon, a young talented, dynamic and impassioned
33 year old vine grower.
For the family Pichon, the vines and the vineyards
are a family business ; both Christophe and his wife Nadine share
the tasks: the size, disbudding, pollarding, the thinning out of
leaves… and, from time to time, the activity extends to the three
young children in the family who learn from their parents the work
of the vine and why not their future trade. Christophe Pichon envisions
that in very little time, he will be able to resume his father's
operation in its entirety.
The Estate of Versant Doré consists of two plots
of vineyards for a total of one hectare and half: one hectare is
planted on the terraces of very steep slopes, includng one of the
most beautiful slopes known locally as "la Roche Coulante"
and a half hectare of the bottom of the slope is known locally as
" MEVE ". The natural dry stone walls surrounding the terraces
are more than a thousand years old. They thus require a special
maintenance. Christophe Pichon endeavours to rebuild them on a regular
basis in the traditional way, so that later, his children can continue
the work.
